DO'S and DON'TS (as a student) while opting your stream in 11th !!!

DO’S and DON’TS while opting streams:

SHARE with the people who are in 10th and are now going to opt streams in 11th. Though I'll be wrapping it in a very small article...

Well as the 10th boards are coming to an end, many students are asking how to decide which subject to take. Honestly from my experience, I will suggest students to keep the following points in mind while opting for subjects that are discussed below. However, what I was unaware at my schooling period was that I could opt out from my stream of subject to other in the next course. It’s not necessary for a Bachelor of Science to pursue Masters in science; they can opt for M.B.A or any other degree and diploma course that they have knowledge about.

Do’s:

·         Explore the opportunities because there is a chance that you might not be fully aware of the pros of subject that you are opting.

·         Get help of your super seniors. They are ‘super seniors’ for a reason.

·         Prepare a chart of subjects and then tabulate them under ‘favourite’, ‘unsure’ and ‘disliked’

·         Match your favourite subjects with the list of subjects in the stream. For e.g.:

o   Your favourites were BIOLOGY, PSYCHOLOGY, MATHS and PHYSICS

o   Your weak subjects were PHYSICAL EDUCATION and SOCIAL STUDIES

o   You kept ENGLISH, CHEMISTRY and HINDI in unsure criteria

o   There is a high chance that you can opt for science stream here because of your choices.

·         Talk to your parents and friends but listen to your gut-feeling. There are a few cases where some students took streams according to their parents or chose streams with their pals and failed badly. It’s your call, take it by yourself.

·         Decide a future goal as a PLAN-A, but do have an alternative goal as PLAN-B. For e.g. if you take SCIENCE-BIO then you may take MATHS or PSYCOLOGY with it. Here, they may be little difficult for you but these subjects will work as an asset in future.

·         Go through the syllabus of various subjects to have a quick scan. You may take the help of YOUTUBE to learn and explore new subjects.

·         Last and most IMPORTANT: Have a look at your report card. That tells you the honest reviews of which subject you like and you should pursue.

Don’t:

  • ·         Don’t Undergo peer pressure
  • ·         Parent’s expectations are still the reason for wrong decisions
  • ·          Just because “KAPOOR SAHAB KA BETA” did it...
  • ·         Some kids take science just to show-off and then keep dragging throughout their lives. Believe me all streams are equal and they are all equally easy if you put efforts; and equally difficult if you neglect studies.

*TALK TO A CAREER COUNSELLOR* if you are still unsure and you can post your queries about this in comments and I’ll surely help.
